Enhancing Nursing Education and Retention by Initiation of Care Delivered by Mobile Health Units Heading link
Bringing care to communities that need it most, starting July 2024
The University of Illinois Chicago College of Nursing, a proven provider of health care and nursing education in Illinois, will be operating a mobile health unit for underserved teens and young adults in and around Peoria County, beginning in July 2024.
UI Health Mobile Health & Wellness Services will offer reproductive healthcare from a brand-new, 38-foot RV converted into a clinic on wheels. Going to the rural areas of Illinois where care is less available, advanced practice nurses will provide services including:
- Well-visits and regular check-ups to ensure overall health and wellness
- Confidential testing and counseling for sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
- Contraceptive management and information on birth control options
- Quick, reliable, point-of-care pregnancy testing
- Reproductive health education
Patient-centered care will be provided by experienced nurse practitioners and nurse-midwives from the University of Illinois Chicago College of Nursing.
The program was made possible by a $3.1 million grant from the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration to fund ENRICH (Enhancing Nursing Education and Retention by Initiation of Care delivered by Mobile Health Units).
