UIC College of Nursing awarded $3.1 million HRSA grant Heading link

The UIC College of Nursing has been awarded a $3.1 million Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) ENRICH grant (Enhancing Nursing Education and Retention by Initiation of Care Delivered by Mobile Health Units) to run a mobile health unit for underserved teens in Illinois.

This mobile health unit will operate in disadvantaged rural and urban areas of Illinois, and provide services to improve teen health and well-being, including reproductive health services such as well visits, screening for sexually transmitted diseases, and contraceptive management. The mobile health unit will also provide point-of-care tests for pregnancy and reproductive health.

Nursing students will benefit from valuable hands-on experiences that will greatly improve access and quality of care for underserved rural high school teens.

Dr. Kelly Rosenberger, the principal investigator for the ENRICH grant states that “Nursing students will benefit from valuable hands-on experiences that will greatly improve access and quality of care for underserved rural high school teens”. Nurse practitioners training in the ENRICH mobile health program will include family nurse practitioners, pediatric primary care nurse practitioners, women’s health nurse practitioners and nurse midwives.
